SATURDAY – SPRINT

the dullest mistake of the year!!! Sometimes I wonder how come I’m able to switch the brain OFF so easily… :)

SUNDAY – LONG

who’s the fool???

Of course me, since I did few stupid mistakes during the race. Anyway, check the picture below. How would/should one run to the finish?

Unmarked 160m from the last control to the goal.
I did run as I was supposed to, however, the finish line was nowhere to be seen. After some minutes charging the bushes I turned back and run to the “correct” goal.
Yes, I’m probably the stupid one, there were flags from the last control leading towards the goal. It was also mentioned in the instruction that due to printing (A4 format) the finish circle had to be placed onto a non-existing position. Nevertheless I’m running according to the map and the control descriptions…

No harm done, probably I just waned to prove how “smart” I am… :)

Runnig helps!

Friday, June 27th, 2008

People should run more often in order to think clearly and prevent messing up other people’s lives! I keep saying this since June last year when things at work turned very dodgy!

Here’s the proof, Ronnie O’Sullivan, often considered one of the most naturally talented players in snooker history says: “[Running is] the best therapy I’ve ever had,”. Read more here

MIDDLE & SPRINT CHAMPS

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Czech orienteers apparently do not like to run sprints. For that reason the “calendar committee” has decided some time ago to implement the sprint races into weekends were it could/would “suite”. The results of that invention is, in my opinion, complete NONSENSE!

Imagine:
Saturday: AM – Sprint, PM – Relay league (or vice versa)
Sunday: AM – Relay league

It is NOT common that the competition center is the SAME for all three races. Usually one has to drive some distance, which makes the weekend perfectly hectic! We were given to experience such a wonderful opportunity again last weekend during CZE-champs-weekend.

…started already on Thursday with the Forssa Games, including myself as well. After 7 years I was finally at the spot at the so-called the best-one-day-O-event in the World. Where and when one like me can run against Ikonen, Gueorgiou, Novikov and others? I guess only at Forssa…
The trip from home was quite hectic, I got to the prestart at 18.10 (officially closed at 18.00) :) and so was the feeling through the whole race. Luckily the course was only 4.1km long… well even that short I was still able to screw it properly!

WEEK #23

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Sunday – long

15 km, 700 climbing, 25 controls.
I was really worried whether I’ll make it through, and the temperature over 20C did increased my doubts. Anyway, after 1:52:15 I crossed the finished line, dead tired. I knew that I had made some mistakes, as almost always. I was very sure, that my speed could not match with best ones, and definitely NOT after one hour or so. So I thought the best would do it slightly below 1:40:00, it still looked like that until Bingo’s train arrived, 1:31:10.

Saturday – middle
The race for me has ended on the 5th control already where I’ve lost the Si card. Although I found it after two minutes or so, I could not concentrate anymore. The course itself was a night mare! Only green, green and green! And with no will to push it’s always hard to run through the bushes…

CAPE TOWN

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

cape town from table mount

I have survived, I have not seen or witnessed any violence although the views from the bus on the never-ending-slums have been frightening…
Check out some pictures here

I haven’t got so many of them as I did not dare to take a camera with me on places considered (by who?) not to be safe! What a fool I was…
