Promise is promise II

June 3rd, 2010

We’ve made it safely back home after spending some quality time in Hungarian woods. Although I was not so sure around Mlada Boleslav if we gonna make it or rather crash it. 24 hrs without sleep, no proper meal and over 3hrs of more or less intense running did some “adjustment” to our bodies.

The race went for me as follows:

15:00
Short Difficult, 5.6km 40.38
The first real O-race since 25-manna, so running carefully and extra carefully on d-hills. Legs and the fast-running-feeling OK

19:40
Long Easy, 6.0km 43.57
Finishing that one I thought I must quit! Sooo tired, concrete-like-legs plus doing mistakes on “rastiralli-like-controls”…

23:40
Long Easy Night, 6.0km 48.17
Changed O-shoes to Sarva and it did a trick! Legs like brand-new… running extra-extra careful. Luckily the temperature had dropped from +25C down to “normal-Liberec-like” +15C.

03:10
Long Easy Night, 5.6km 44.03
Had to drink so strong coffee before that normally it would have killed me… Really really an odd feeling while taking a 4th shower (cold water of course) in the last 12 hrs, and moreover at 4 in the night… I guess that doesn’t need to say more.

07:10
Short Easy, 3.3km 22.57
Reaching the limits… so far slept 5mins all together…

10:40
FF (means prob. Fucking Final or what), 4.8km 33.40
1hr before I had problems to walk normally… Coffee, gels, sugar + adrenalin and the thought that it is the last one carried me through…

Bohu run her standard: full speed, no mistakes! so no need to write more…

results

To sum up: PERFECT experience, but maybe next time I will run a bit more O beforehand, so to prepare the legs for the shock :) all together about 3 min mistakes, well the courses were not so difficult. The ANKLES survived! The stomach for the 2nd half was completely fucked-up, no wonder why, luckily a dark chocolate saved me. I think that was enough of running (orienteering) for a time being… Legs do not deserve such a rough treatment :)

And the best part of the trip: after the race, dead tired and ready to start off toward home, we were forced to wait for 3 HOURS in the middle of the field just to give a way to the old-rubbish-Lada’s. Rally is rally… at least I could have had a little nap :)

Promise is promise…

May 26th, 2010

I foolishly thought that in  7 months the ankle would be OK. Well , not quite yet… So anyway based on that wrong assumption, we entered to the 24-hrs-relay-team-race.  So on Friday we are off to Hungary to test ourselves… It’s gonna be interesting, since there are plenty of possibilities to make up the team tactics, the team order, etc. We’re not quite sure yet, since the INFO on the Web isn’t at some part so clear. Nevertheless, we’re 6 in the team and 24 hrs of O-running ahead. I hope, that I can hold on as long as I can.

Little warm last weekend, Tour de Gully. Running gully over gully combined with pretty dense vegetation ground and a week-long rain… Hmmm lovely!

It’s Not About the Bike…

May 19th, 2010

as Lance have tried to describe

Definitely the truth… although it’s quite a difference if you climb the hills on 7 (minus) kg “Carbon” bike or on 9 (plus) kg “Alu” bike. But if you haven’t trained enough, even Carbon, shaved legs or fancy clothes won’t help you much.

I have ridden my first ever road-bike-race. Since the crazy last 1/2 a year, in health perspective, “forced” me to change/find some other options to sweat. I don’t mind after all… It’s something new and it’s fun!

The announcer told us to ride slowly till the official start (about 2km), well if slowly means 40 or more km/h then I might have missed something… The tempo was killing from the very start. To make things even worse, I dropped the pump on about the 2nd km. It has not happened to me in last 3000kms, actually never, well everything is for the first time. So approx. 118 km without a puncture! Bit of a challenge… The tempo did not eased, but luckily the small hills every now and then helped me a bit to stay in the pack. Finally we approached the real Hills, time to see who’s got IT or not! Well, I got IT! :) The next 50km was like in Liberec, up and down all the time. After 80km of the race, back on the flat, I was alone with no clue who’s and how much ahead of me. Well definitely I knew that there are plenty of guys (real cyclists) behind, much faster than me on the flat. So I kept pushing and pushing. The head wind of course…

I crossed happily the finish line after 3hrs 37min and smth in the saddle. The only perfect feeling was spoiled by the wanker who outsprinted me on the final stretch, I caught him some 20km before the goal, looked like he won’t make it to the finish, never changed, always resting behind my back… Nutter!

And the best part of the race: no all those “IFs”, no speculations. Just ride as fast and as long as you can… Although the “leg-shavers” had plenty of thoughts about the good/bad tactics and “IFs” as well! I definitely don’t care, I want more of the bike races for sure!!!

Results and map&profile

Anyway the O part of our lives still goes on. Bohu’s has been to 10-Mila, did very well, considering that she’s working, have 3 kids at home (Anna, Erik, Robert) and train not so much, regularly though. Pity that the other girls in the team didn’t have their best day… Jukola! I had to skip Tio after 10 straight years and stayed at home, watching the race over the Net. Bit boring I must admit.

I’ve started running again some weeks ago. It’s still not good. But the ankle needs some movement in order to be normal again. I’ll keep on exercising, the only option I have anyway. I even run the O-race already, but it was not so enjoyable as before the “little accident happened”.

More races in upcoming weeks… stay tuned!

SATISFACTION!

December 22nd, 2009

I usually don’t get bothered much if some “specialists” #1 or #2 get so smart and give you “hard” time over some discussions after all is over… How it should have been if and all that blablabla stuff.

Opening the world_of_o today in the morning (usually the 1st thing I do when launching the web browser) produced a nice grin on my face. My “baby” was chosen…

According to Bohu, I should write it in less complicated way, so here it goes:

- I was the course setter of that particular race
- I read some comments from the so-called-sprint-specialists afterwards, that it was so poor and all that blablabla shite
- today (22.12.) the H21E leg from that particular race was chosen as Route to Christmas: Day 22 2009
- which makes me satisfied!

Marry Christmas to all you O-freaks!

WINTER IS BACK!

December 12th, 2009

Thanks to the IBU, EBU, FIS, ST, SIWIDATA we still don’t need to have a telly at home, yet still we can comfortably follow any ski race on the PC… However, there is still some work to be done for the FIS in order to follow live-stream from the XC-races.

WASTED YEARS

December 4th, 2009

Why, why, why me???!!!

This question has been bothering my mind for recent days. Why on Earth do I have to be injured again?! When it all seemed that at last my legs will be healed. Is it that I’m a stubborn dumbass or is it due to a neglect while running on still injured (not 100% mended) legs, bad attitude, bad luck, predispositions, lack of professionalism, or anything else…??? Perhaps a fine mixture of all, I don’t know…

I went through my old training diaries, through my mind and started to count the days when I’ve been injured or somehow hindered from training by some pain. Well see for yourself below… (those days when I just twisted a bit and could run next day again or those when I felt some small pain are not counted though).

Year 2003 is nothing like that “luck” struck me at last or that some miracle had happened! The reason is that at that particular year I trained only about 170hrs. I was sooo fed up with running… I usually just trained intervals on Tue at Kupittaa, some long runs over the weekend, map from time to time, but most of the time I just sat on the sofa and watched telly, Bohdana could tell you :) However the 7th place at the Finnish Relay Champs or 2nd best time on 5th leg at 25manna isn’t bad either…

Luckily it’s ONLY sport, which nowadays doesn’t occupy 100% of my mind, just a bit less :)

and as long as these two little angels are healthy, and so is Bohu, I don’t care much…

Tunnelissa takaisin

November 23rd, 2009

Month ago I seemed to be finally at  the end of the looong tunnel, “everlasting” problems with my RIGHT ankle had been removed at last. New expectations, new high hopes…

Well after Friday’s little accident, I’m back in pitch black again! Yesterday I have undergone ankle surgery (LEFT), 2 torn ligaments. Now I have “Darth-Vader-plaster” stuck on my leg for 6 weeks, so hopefully by the end of January I’ll be walking normally… Oh yeah!!!

Definitely NO Jizerska 50, and I wonder whether I make it to Vasaloppet..

Švihák

November 5th, 2009

I just can’t leave it unmentioned…

If you don’t know Svihak, this should show what kind of guy he is. And if you know him, it just proves how he is…

2.11.09
mail from Svihak:
Hi dude, do you mind if I’d borrow your head-lamp?

Robert:
sure, no problem!

4.11.09

Time to fetch the lamp, pack it, so that I could hand it over to Svihak tomorrow (Thu). But it’s not where it used to be, I’m searching whole flat, but I just cannot find it! Calling people around to whom I’ve lent the lamp recently. Everybody seemed, that they had returned the lamp. I remember last time having the lamp was at 10MIla… Time to call Svihak :(

Robert: Hi, sorry dude, but I just couldn’t find the lamp so far… but I’ll keep searching. How badly do you need it? When is your race?
Svihak: Aha, well… the race is this weekend. OK, I’ll try to call somebody else.
R: Well, it looks that no one seems to be having my lamp. I remember having it at 10Mila, but then… Hey wait a minute, didn’t I lent you the lamp to Slovenia in June?
S: Yes, actually you did, but I returned it to Bohu.
R: Bohu, did Svihak gave my lamp sometime in June/July?
Bohu: Well, I don’t remember.
R: OK, Bohu doesn’t remember.
S: OK, I’ll have a look at my place anyway and I’ll let you know.

after a while SMS from Svihak: I have it :) So I’ll borrow it, OK?
R: OK :)

Yes, that’s Svihak!
